The 1950 Ford F-1 was well ahead of its time with rugged all-steel body, and distinct grille. The F-1 was known for its payload capacity, the first to include telescopic shock absorbers which helped the suspension move efficiently. On the RC side of things, the crew from Groveland, Florida took on a challenge of adapting this design to one of the most popular mini crawlers on the market.
One of the tell-tale signs of an early model pick-up is the large swooping fender flares and round shaped wheel well openings. In yesteryear, the tire openings remained part of the styling of the body style and design. The lower tire flare section creates a large lower blocking design covering suspension components while the upper aero canopy covering the front-end slips through the air with ease. Included and pre-cut decals can be applied by user to the front and side of the engine cover.
Move down toward the grille area and apply the Ford decals to detail the front-end on extruded surfaces. Between front and rear body sections, a single cab with side steps gives the cab a narrow look but plenty of access for small figures and mock passengers to climb inside. The rear bed, which was so popular in the 1950’s for the F-1, has a slight amount of recess for body mounting capabilities. The bed itself sits inside the large fender flares giving the whole rear section a very slim and authentic look.
The very round cab leaves a huge impression on appearance and looks the part for scale truck enthusiasts wanting to look like the real thing. The clear body shell arrives pre-trimmed on the border of item and will drop right on the popular Traxxas TRX-4M vehicle. Body post holes will need to be added to align with included JConcepts #5251 body mount system. Bodies are more easily mounted when clear and before painting or decoration.
The JConcepts team builds, tests, and travels the world to support the brand and gathers valuable driver feedback in search of the best appearing and performance items on the market. The product is designed in the U.S.A. and always backed by JConcepts customer service, supported, and developed by professionals with style. Look for reputable dealers and distributors and demand authentic products – choose JConcepts.
To install the body mount system, it’s necessary to identify if you have a standard TRX-4M or High Trail variant. JConcepts has body mount bases for both types of trucks, and they are marked on the bottom as S for (Standard) and HT for (High Trail). The mounts are keyed for each shock tower individually and will need to be checked to make sure it drops down on each corner prior to locating screws.
Once the body mount bases are laid out for each corner, remove shock mounting screw from the top of the shock and add the mount base. Reinstall the included M2x13 BHCS through the shock eyelet and into the new mount base to secure the position. Add the long body mounts to each corner and set ride height according to where the user wants the position of the body to be relative to the tires. To maintain body mount height, add M2x8 BHCS through the mount base and into the mount post. It is now a good time to drop the body down onto the mounts and mark holes for the body mounts to stick through the polycarbonate body. Ream or drill the holes in the body carefully to just fit the diameter of the posts.
For final attachment, add body clips on top to secure the body to the mounts. Body clip leashes are also included to help keep the clips in order; these can be installed to user preference and position of choice. Once body height and position are finalized, come back and trim the extra body post material hanging from the bottom to help clean up the final look and finish. The mounts can be cut with hobby-based knife or curved hobby scissors.
